UEFA 2022-2023 : Real Madrid Vs Liverpool Round of 16 Match Report
Real Madrid after showing a class of Display came from behind and won the match with a comprehensive lead 5-2 over Liverpool. In the UEFA Champions League, a round of 16 match at Infield on Tuesday night Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema scored twice in the match and Éder Gabriel Militão scored one goal.
” The victory is dedicated to honorary club President Amancio Amaro (who passed away on Tuesday). Benzema said in a post-match interview ” We showed spirit, we scored goals, we won and we want to win this champions trophy.
“It was overall a good game. our start was not good. we came back to the match 15 mins from start. Football is always a difficult game. Their start was better than ours, backed by the support of their fans. We knew we had to do a lot more to win, and we did it until the end.”
The first half of the game was quite Impressive by Liverpool, as they played an attacking game at the start of the match and look lead in the 4th minute when Drawin Núñez scored a fibulas goal and then Muhammad Salah scored a close-range goal thanks to Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois who did a blunder.
After going 2-0 down Real Madrid Counter Attacked Liverpool and in the 21st minute Vinicius scored a beautiful goal with a low shot past, Allison, to lower the lead to 2-1. in the 36th minute Vinicius got another change when the goalkeeper Allison mishit the ball gone toward Vinicius and he rolled it into the net for his 2nd goal. it was 2-2 till the 1st half.
After a slow start in 1st half the 2nd half was quite attacking by the Madrid side when Éder Militão scored 3rd for Madrid 47th Minute and later on Karim Benzema scored another goal in the 55th minute of the game. That increased the lead to 4-2. After the shocking lead, the Anfield crowd and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp were quite worried on the sideline.
In the 67th minute, Benzema got another chance and he scored his 2nd goal increasing the lead to 5-2 in favor of Real Madrid. Benzema picked up a pass from Vinicius and hit a shot in the upper left corner.
“I did not play much in the Champions League, I want to score more goals to help my team. It was overall a good game For me. In last season I played many games but got injured in the world cup but it is getting better day by day” Benzema said.
Liverpool conceded five goals, which was the first time in club history in UEFA Champions League. It’s Almost the end of February and Liverpool’s season is Almost ending as the team is already out of League Cup and FA Cup and now Eliminated from the Champions Trophy. In Premier League they are number 8.
The only remaining way to finish the season in good manners is to finish the fourth in Premier League to qualify for next season’s Champions League. That’s not an impossible task as Liverpool is 7 points behind Tottenham currently at number four on the chart, but they have only two games in hand.
The Team which was chasing trophies in all major tournaments last season had a remarkable drop-off this season.
