HARRY BROOK 1ST IPL CENTURY

Harry Brook Silent Indian Fans Scored 1st Century of IPL

With 100 not out off 55 balls, Harry Brook scored his first IPL century as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 23 runs.

The 24-year-old English batsman helped Sunrisers score 228-4 with a magnificent innings that included 12 fours and three sixes.

Despite Nitish Rana’s 75 from 41 balls and Rinku Singh’s undefeated 58 off 31, Kolkata could only manage to reach 205-7 in reply.

The fifth English batsman in history to do so, Brook is the first player to score a century in the IPL this season.

England’s Brook, who scored his half-century in 32 balls, took only 23 balls more to reach his maiden IPL century.

This century is Brook’s most recent accomplishment in a remarkable year that has seen him establish himself as one of the game’s most exciting batters across all formats.

With an unbeaten 102 off 48 balls for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League in February 2022, Brook scored his first T20 century.

A month after helping England in winning the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, he was picked up by Sunrisers for £1.35 million in the December 2023 IPL auction.

In addition, Brook has had a remarkable start to his Test career, scoring four hundreds in his first six games at an average of 80.90 and a fantastic strike rate of 98.77 runs for every 100 balls.

He is one of just five English hitters to have scored an IPL century, along with Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Jonny Bairstow. While Test captain Stokes has done this twice in the competition, England’s limited overs skipper Buttler has five centuries in IPL.

Aiden Markram of South Africa scored 50 runs off just 26 balls, and Abhishek Sharma contributed 32 runs off just 17 balls to help the Sunrisers post the highest total in this season so far.

Knight Riders’ Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out for a duck off the third ball of their chase. KKR then droped further 20-3 at Eden Gardens. Andre Russell left his team at 96-5 got out in the first ball of the 11th over, but captain Rana and Rinku kept Kolkata in the game with a stand of 69 runs off 39 balls.

After Rana’s injury , Rinku, who had heroically hit five sixes off the final five balls to lead Kolkata over Gujarat Titans on Sunday, was unable to continue his onslaught as the Sunrisers earned their second victory.
